And We're Back!

Nathan reminded me that at one point in time I did have the camera hooked up to his computer, so I tried again this morning and it works! I have a feeling I didn't restart after loading the drivers...

So here are some pictures from the past few days.

I had him sitting up with the boppy surrounding him. It keeps him from banging his head if he falls, but it can't actually keep him from falling. Usually he starts to cry as soon as he is down, but yesterday he was quite fascinated with the new view of his bouncer.

He's my little mechanic.

He tried so hard to sit back up, but he just doesn't have the strength.

And I want to share the sweetest little moment we just had. Jameson is very tired but doesn't want to sleep. I was laying next to him and he was just staring at me and smiling. I leaned down to kiss him, and then stroked his cheek, and then he brought his little hand up to my face and did his best to stroke my cheek too! It is so amazing that just six months ago this little baby had no idea how to control his body. He has learned so much so fast.

A First You Won't Find in Any Baby Book

Still no pictures since the laptop is still dead, and I've caught Nathan's flu. But I just have to share what Jameson did yesterday.

He was sitting in my lap, facing me, just chilling and looking around the bedroom, when he did something quite normal for him. He farted. Nothing weird there.

But then he looked right at me and he started laughing. He laughed at his own fart. I thought this didn't start until preschool!

Nathan, of course, is very proud.

No Pictures

The laptop is broken (it won't turn on at all) and so I can't upload pictures for now. Jameson has a rash from his immunizations, and Nathan has the flu, so there's not much going on here anyway.

Jameson's Half Birthday

Six months. I can't believe it. My baby is half a year old. It really does go very quickly.

I found the book with the milestones in it, so here is what Jameson can do.

By six months, your baby should be able to:

Keep head level with body when pulled to sitting

Those neck muscles are so strong! Jameson's been able to keep his head level for months now.

Say "ah-goo" or similar vowel-consonant combinations

His repertoire has expanded to include all of the vowels, most of the soft consonants, and even a "d" and "t" every so often.

By six months, your baby will probably be able to:

Bear some weight on legs when held upright

Since the day he was born, literally.

Sit without support

He still falls over sometimes, but he loves sitting up. I surround him with toys and he kicks at them and grabs as many as he can.

Turn in the direction of a voice

He always wants to know who is in the room, and will twist around to see anyone talking.

Razz

Didja see that video a few weeks back?

By six months your baby may possibly be able to:

Stand holding on to someone or something

He's been doing this for months, and is able to take a few steps if we hold his hands.

Object if you try to take a toy away

He does get upset every once in a while if we take a toy, and if a toy falls he looks around for it and sometimes fusses for us to give it back.

Work to get a toy that's out of reach

This is what causes him to topple over when he's sitting!

Pass a toy from one hand to another

I love watching him moving his toys so slowly and carefully.

Look for a dropped object

Hey doesn't always look in the right place, but he does look. He's still figuring out this "gravity" thing.

Rake with fingers and pick up a tiny object

I discovered he could do this when he grabbed a dustbunny from his blanket on the floor. I guess I really need to sweep more often.

Babble, combining vowels and consonants such as ga-ga-ga

He prefers the classic "goo-goooo" sound combination

Feed self cracker or other finger food

Sadly, yes. Sunday night we gathered at a friends house to watch the Packers get beat, and Jameson ate a Wheat Thin. I was not in the room at the time, but apparently he grabbed one out of Nathan's hand and chewed on it until it was mushy, then ate it. I found a little piece of it behind his ear.

By six months, your baby may even be able to:

Creep or crawl

He tries so hard, but not yet. He likes to get his butt up in the air, but he always plants his face in the ground first. He looks like an inch worm!

Pull up to standing

No, thank goodness!

Get into a sitting position

He tries sometimes, doing little baby crunches, but he hasn't been able to do it yet.

Pink up a tiny object with thumb and finger

Nope, he's still content with using his entire fist to grab things

Say "mama" or "dada" indiscriminately

You heard the "dada", but that's it so far.

Tia Leah came over yesterday to help take care of Jameson since I had a migraine. She put her bandana on him and gave him lots of attention.

He said Dada!

Jameson has been talking up a storm lately. I was trying to record him talking to his toys, but he decided to talk to the camera instead. And right at the end he says "dada"! I wish I hadn't cut it off, but he took me by surprise! (Also, the pjs are half-off because we were in the middle of a diaper change. But doesn't he look like a little 80's rocker with the hair and "vest"?)

He's starting to like the turtle.

He got his first "real" food today -- carrots! The taste was a bit shocking, but he ate it better than he does the cereal.

But really he just likes to chew on the spoon. And his hand, if he can fit both in there.

After I took away the bowl, he started channeling his Great-Grandpa Gillespie. (Grandpa used to love banging his silverware on the table, although he had much better rhythm than Jameson.) I don't know why the sound and audio are so off in this video. Sorry.

There's a Whole Lot of Cuddling Going On

I just finished cleaning the kitchen and noticed that the house was awfully quiet. The TV wasn't on, Jameson's little keyboard wasn't singing, Nathan wasn't on the phone, the baby wasn't crying. So I went to investigate and this is what I found.

I think this picture might become the new background for the computer. It's such a precious sight! They've been asleep together for at least an hour, I think. Jameson always does sleep better in bed with me, and I guess Dad is just as good. For those few of you who insist Jameson looks more like me than Nathan, look at those mouths!

That's not all the cuddling. A few nights ago, Nathan came home to this:

This plastic bottle is a great toy, but I think Jameson is interested in something else.

He's going to start crawling just so he can grab the cat!

Bouncy Bouncy Bouncy

Jameson and I are stuck at home without a car today, but we're still having a great time. We went for a long walk, took a nap, and Tia Leah came over to play.

Jameson is loving his bouncer. He had learned to bounce on purpose, and he likes all of the toys. We keep the bouncer on a blanket so he isn't on the cold tile, and sometimes he bounces so much that he "walks" the entire thing across the floor. It was very strange the first time I realized he was a foot closer than he had been 5 minutes ago!

Dad got to feed him. His method was to shovel the food in as fast as Jameson would swallow it. It seemed efficient until Jameson spit up all of the cereal ten minutes later. Oh well. Jameson loved getting this new attention from Dad!

This toy is a lot of fun. It is heaver than his animals, so it gives him some practice at really having to work at lifting something. It also rattles and rolls. I get him sitting up so he can have a new perspective on the toys.

Uh-oh!

It's okay!

This is a few days old. Jameson was just hanging out on the couch, playing with the blankets. There is a pillow on the floor in case he slid down.

Poor Kitty

I made Jameson a blue turtle. He likes him, but can't hold on to him very well. Give it time....

Hey, what's over there?

Hi Jasmine!

Hey, this is MY blog! Stop hogging the camera, kitty!

But Jameson got his revenge later that night. Jasmine was napping on his blankets when we put him down next to her. He's getting pretty good at spinning around on his tummy, and he turned so his feet were right in her gut. And he just kicked and kicked while she mewed pitifully.

Jameson was playing with Dad and Jasmine wanted some attention too. She got more than she bargained for.

This is his new trick. He does this for half an hour at a time! It's just one more new sound he can make. And this one comes with special effects (spittle!)

Not Sure If I Want to Remember This

Jameson just rolled off the bed.

He's fine.

Nathan had put him down on some pillows, his feet about 10 inches from the edge. I was changing into my pjs and heard some movement. When I turned around, Jameson was laying right along the edge and about to go over. I got to him just as he hit. He landed on his side and rolled to his back, looking up at me very confused. I scooped him up and we both started to cry.
Nathan took him to calm him down, and within 5 minutes Jameson was laughing and cooing for us. Now he's laying here playing with my sleeve. He's perfectly fine. I'm still pretty shaken up!

Happy New Year!

Jameson is our New Year Baby! Happy 2008!

We had a great time last night at Dave & Christina's. Jameson got lots of family loving. Aunt Rose took his picture on her phone, and Jameson had to give his approval on the shots.

Grandma gave him some water. The bottle was messy, and he chewed on a plastic cup, so she finally gave him a sippy cup and he drank quite a bit.

Hanging out in the kitchen with Leah.

Cousin Teresa was all dressed up.

Uncle Pancho was a lot of fun. It's very noisy, but you can hear Jameson's giggles if you pay attention.

After a short nap, he played with Aunt Leah. The rest of the house was too noisy but we had lots of fun in the office.

Jameson had been absolutely fascinated by the forks, but his sleeve distracted him. At 11:30, with a couple mudslides, this was hilarious which is why I can't seem to hold the camera still.
