Teddy Thinks...

This is for you, Dad.

Jameson and I have discovered that our netflix subscription let's him watch Diego and Dora whenever he wants, and so it has become my job to cut him off at some point. He needs to play, and I need to stop hearing about Rescue Pack.

So, this evening I told Jameson no more videos until after dinner, and he whined a little, then went to play fire trucks in his room. Just a few minutes later, he came out showing me my old turtle toy and my teddy bear. I took turtle back to her high shelf, but let Jameson have Teddy. He put him on a chair, and I asked if Teddy wanted to play.

"No, I think maybe bear wants to watch a Diego."

Singing

Jameson loves to sing in church. It doesn't bother him that he doesn't know the words.

My Bedtime Story

Jameson just told me this story:

On Wednesday, there was a pig. He was sick. So he went home and went to sleep. And ate a snack. On Thursday he woke up. He heard a funny word outside his window. It was a duck. Then he heard another funny word. It was another....

From there it turned into a lot of made up words and 'they went here' while pointing to a place on his leg. But he made up his own story, with only a little plagiarism from Curious George!

Napping in the Car

Both my boys took a nap on the way home from Phoenix. They look even more alike when they sleep. And yes, I did take this photo while driving; my eyes were on the road the entire time.

Aunt Leah!

Aunt Leah is in town and she stopped by today. I purposefully didn't mention her to Jameson, to see if he would remember her. He seemed to remember that she is fun to play with, but the name stumped him at first. She kept trying to get him to say it, and he acted shy. I turned on the camera while she is holding him, saying she won't let him down until he says 'Aunt Leah'. It's very, very faint, but at the end, she says "but I love you" and he responds "I love you too" while he throws his arms around her. Awww....

Watching them squirm and play reminded me of some pictures I took when Jameson was itty bitty. There is another one that is just perfect, but I can't find it. Leah was holding this tiny, crying baby to her chest while he struggles and pushes his butt up in the air. If I can find it on my back-up harddrive, I'll post it later.

Fixing Daddy's Car

The battery is dead, so Grandpa came over to see if it can take a charge. Jameson loves to help with the tools!

So Bad and So Good

Jameson spent the morning with the neighbor girl, who is a year older than him but considerably smaller. They're getting better at playing together, but Jameson still gets a little too rough sometimes. They were 'jackhammering' all around his room with a toy hammer and a toy ax, and then Jameson decided that his hammer is now a regular hammer, and hit Sarah in the arm with it.

She started to cry, and Jameson thought it was funny at first. I held Sarah and ignored Jameson so that he wouldn't be rewarded with attention, figuring I would scold him later. Then I feel Jameson come up and hug Sarah and me, saying "It's okay, I'm sorry." She kept crying, and he hugged us again, then ran off to the living room. Sarah walked to follow him, and he showed up with a kleenex, which he used to wipe her tears! And he said sorry again!

How can this little boy be so mean sometimes, and then become so sweet?

Boy

This is a very old picture, but I need it to remind me of how adorable and sweet my son is. Because right now I'm not feeling it.

This morning while I was loading up the washing machine Jameson crawled into his bed. I went into his room and laid down with him. We talked and cuddled for a few minutes, then he hopped up and climbed down, and told me in his fake-serious voice that I should stay there. He rambled around the house for a few minutes then came back to the bed, we read a book, then got up. I went to the bookshelf by his door for my glasses.

They weren't there. I was pretty sure that's where I had put them, so I looked around on the floor, in the shelves, and asked Jameson to help me look. We ended up spending 45 minutes looking for my glasses. I put in my contacts so I could see while we searched. I kept asking Jameson where he put my glasses, and he would always tell me that he had put them exactly where I was looking. Or he would tell me that the garbage truck took them. So I looked in the garbage cans. Nope.

I was getting very frustrated and tried to calm down, telling Jameson that he is not in trouble, that I was not mad, I just need to know where the glasses are. "Garbage truck"

I did, during this time, get a decent amount of angry cleaning done. I sorted his toys as I searched each box, I dusted the shelves as I looked behind the books, and I swept as I moved the couch.

And that's where I found the glasses. Most of them, at least. I found the frame, with one lens, dropped in the gap between the two couches and the table. One arm was bent at the hinge and that lens was missing. I showed this to Jameson, and he managed now to tell me that he tried to wear the glasses and they broke, and he tried to fix them. I told him that he was not in trouble, but he's not allowed to touch mommy's glasses any more. And where was that missing lens?

He insisted that he had broken and fixed the glasses on the rug in the living room, and eventually we found the lens under a chair. Amazingly, it wasn't scratched, and I was able to get it back in the frame. They still feel 'wrong' when I wear them, but they're usable.

I'm not actually upset about the glasses. If it happens again, I will be. But it is so upsetting to realize that my little baby is old enough to lie and evade to avoid getting caught and getting in trouble. I don't want him to grow up!

Daddy

I just read a book to Jameson called, "I Love my Daddy Because". Each page has an animal family doing something, and a phrase like "I love my daddy because he keeps me warm" or "he teaches me to be brave." On some of the pages I would stop and ask Jameson if his daddy does that.

Now it's bed time, so as Jameson walked down the hall, he told me that, "My daddy will teach me to be a marshal, and I love my marshal, and when he's all done doing marshal he will wrestle me."

Fruit roll up

Tree

We'll try this again

First Tree Climbing

I planted that tree when I was 4 months pregnant with Jameson. Now he can play on it! Today it was his excavator, I think. We had lunch outside, and he ate a fruit roll up that grandma left him. I had to show him how.

Kid in a Toy Store

I bribe Jameson to be good in the store with promises of time in the toy aisles. He's figuring out how to make all the trucks make noise.

Play House

For only $290, you could give Jameson the joy of his own little home. We've been stuck in this aisle at Costco for quite awhile now. Ah, and now it's his garbage truck, and he has to get out to pick up each garbage can on the road.

A New Friend

The playground is crawling with kids after church, and Jameson has made a new friend. Eli is a year older, but Jameson is still bigger than him.

Baking Boy Baking Boy Bak

Jameson loves helping me in the kitchen, especially when I give him some of the ingredients I'm using. He helped make cookies yesterday. I tucked a towel into his pants as an apron, and he took to the roll of chef quite well.

He decided some of the flour is to be saved for later, and that it is Christmas presents. For Uncle Ben, Aunt UAnn and Isaiah. Ariadne gets the bowl, I assume.
